MAXI-STEER

Semi-Trailer with an axle unit of three axles, two of which are steerable. Our Maxi-Steer trailer is engineered to carry a +/- 32 tonnes payload and boasts a unique steering system that reduces friction and aids in manoeuvrability on the road.

  • Decrease in trailer maintenance costs due to reduced wear
  • Decreased fuel costs
  • Decreased turning radius
  • Decreased delivery time
  • Increased stability
  • Ease of access to narrow roads and estates

The setup is familiar in that the truck retains its standard fifth wheel and the trailer makes use of a standard kingpin. The kingpin is mounted to a turntable with a steering wedge. This assembly locks into the fifth wheel, which means that when the truck turns it also rotates the turntable and steering wedge.

An offset point then transfers this movement to two steering rods that run to the rearmost axle turntable (each complete axle is mounted on a turntable). This rearmost axle is connected to the axle ahead of it, allowing for both to turn.

The result is a tyre angle that is always 90° to the turn. Every system is, however, unique to its design.
